Specialising in premium Tasmanian Beef, dry aged, free range, grass fed and artificial hormone free.
Welcome to Black Cow Bistro, an ‘up market’ steak house from the local Stillwater team located in the historic Art Deco Luck’s butchery shop in Launceston, Tasmania.
Black Cow showcases premium dry aged, free range, grass fed, artificial hormone free Tasmanian beef. Dishes are designed around fresh local produce and served in a warm bistro style atmosphere alongside well-priced Tasmanian wines with some full-bodied reds thrown in for good measure.
The Black Cow logo was inspired by the amazing ancient artworks in the Lascaux Caves in France which carbon dating indicates are more than 17,000 years old.
The name is a tribute to the Bos genus, which has been historically important to many cultures. For centuries the cow has been seen and worshiped as a symbol of contentedness, fecundity, the passive yet creative and generative powers of nature, patience, nourishment, abundance, fertility and equifinality.
It is also, of course, an excellent source of protein.
Black Cow is open 7 nights a week for dinner from 5:30pm to late, bookings essential.
Black Cow also offers a semi private table seating up to 12 guests in our wine room.
